A Medium article should be 1000 words long. And should contain the keyword around 7 to 11 times throughout the article. There is no need to put the keywords inside the subheadings.

What is it about?

Medium is a microblogging website, where different content creators can publish their blog articles. A content writer could also use Medium to republish blog articles from their website blog.

There is an option in this blogging platform where you can easily republish. The only issue is to make sure to avoid double content.

But it might be better to only publish unique content on Medium (in this article also called MD). So those articles might also rank inside of the Google search engine and may be also on other search engines, like Bing, etc.

Another advantage of MD is that inside of this platform there are already a lot of users. These readers might get Email notifications about new articles. Or they might see our articles on the front page of MD. Or it might even be suggested to them, in their feed.

So basically this website is also another type of a traffic source for internet visitors.

Is it more casual than a website blog?

Actually Medium articles are usually of a high standard. It is not less casual than a website blog. But because it is easily published, some people use it for casual blogging.

For example this article will be published on Medium. Because it is not that critical.

A place for learning

We can either read other articles and learn from them. Or we can also write articles and learn by researching.

For example the writer could find out about the advantages of MD and also how to use it properly.

And how to gain more readers.

How good is it in search engines?

Some articles will be ranking highly. But it also depends on the keywords used. And also whether the article is popular. Then there will be some signals, like likes, shares, etc. So by seeing this, Google will rank these articles higher.

Another advantages is that MD has a strong website domain authority. So even a fresh article can be found in Google quickly.

It is different with websites, because they usually need to gain domain authority. For example, by creating or getting back links. Or by sharing the articles in social media, like Facebook, LinkedIn and other places.

What is a good writing style?

The sentences should be short and helpful. So that they can be translated into other languages if needed.

The language can be funny, it can be provocative and thought inspiring.

Also it can be general information, which is appealing for large groups of people. It should be less technical. A good example is this article itself. It is written in an easy and simple way.

But of course we should do some research on the topic. In this example, about MD.

For example you could research, how popular Medium is. For example, how many users are on the platform. Or who are the most famous Medium article writers.

What kind of alternatives are there?

Another thing would be, what kind of alternatives are there.

WordPress.com is one such site. It is pretty similar to this website. Because you can easily publish content.

WordPress.com is different from WordPress.org. Because WordPress.org is a self hosted web tool. Unlike WordPress.com, which is hosted by the provider. That means, the .org is installed on your own server. Will the .com is on the WordPress.com server.

WordPress.com has also a community of blog article writers. And articles are also shared with the readers of that platform.

Some also use LinkedIn Articles. One of the buttons for publishing content in LinkedIn, has the name “write article”. And then you can write an article. The advantage of LinkedIn articles is, that there are many LinkedIn users, who can potentially read the article. It can become a viral hit.

Use subheadings from time to time

It is easier to read an article, if there are subheadings.

A few more things which can help to make an article on Medium more readable:

· Use bullet points

· Write short sentences

· Use sub headings from time to time

· Use simple language

Keep it light

Like in this article, keep it simple.

The goal of writing these articles?

The goal is also to learn about new topics.

You might not know what is Laravel. Or what is WordPress. There are also other topics such as SAP, JavaScript, Agile, Offshore Outsourcing, etc.

By writing and researching about these topics, you will learn more about them.

And writing quick 1000 word article on this platform will help you to get a good overview.

For example if you write one article about Laravel. And another article about why software developers from India are great. Then you could write a next article, which is about “why web developers from India are the best choice”.

Because then you have information about what software development in India is. And also what Laravel is.

Because you might have researched both topics. And have already written something about it.

The writing style of this article

Kindly note that this article is written very fast and for learning purposes. That is why may be the sentences are not that great.

When you write, you should of course research online about the topics.

How technical do articles need to be?

In my opinion articles about software do not need to be that much technical.

For example about Laravel.

You could write

“Laravel is a PHP Framework. In the last few years it has become very popular with PHP developers. Because it is easier to use than Symfony or Zend. And it is more powerful than frameworks such as YII or CodeIgniter.

With Laravel it is possible to quickly develop websites, web shops and web applications.

When we compare it in Google Trends with other PHP frameworks, we can see that the popularity has risen quickly.”

So as you can see in this paragraph of writing, it is kept very simple. But it is still useful for the reader.

Write evergreen content

Kindly try to write evergreen content.

For example do not write “Laravel is popular in 2022”.

The issue with this is, that when some reads this in 2023, then he or she will find the article obsolete or too old.

Instead if you write “Laravel is a popular PHP framework”.

“Laravel was create by Taylor Ottwell in 2012”.

Conclusion

Medium.com articles can help you learn more about different topics. Which then can be used to write articles in other places, such as our company blog. So that they have a better quality.

And make sure to write unique content. Even if you write about the same topic again in another place.

For example, if you write about “Advantages and Disadvantages of Laravel”, in different places. Like one in this Medium.com and another one in our blog. Then try to write different articles. For example by looking at it from different angles.
